Destination
Los Cabos, Mexico
Desert meets ocean at the tip of the Baja Peninsula — a different Mexico than the Caribbean coast, with dramatic scenery to match.
Why I Love It
Los Cabos looks nothing like the Caribbean side of Mexico, and that’s the draw for travelers who’ve already done Cancún — dramatic desert cliffs meeting the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez, with El Arco’s rock formation as the signature shot every boat tour swings past.
Winter visits come with a bonus most travelers don’t plan around: gray and humpback whales migrate through the surrounding waters December through April, visible from shore on a clear day and up close on a whale-watching excursion.
Highlights
- El Arco, the iconic rock arch at Land’s End
- Whale watching (December-April, gray and humpback whales)
- A drier, desert climate than Mexico’s Caribbean coast
- Strong direct-flight access from Western US cities
Best time to go: November-April for whale season and the mildest desert heat
Good for: West Coast travelers, couples, anyone wanting a non-Caribbean Mexico tripReady to Plan Los Cabos?
